Project Overview

Project Benalla Police Station
Builder Joss Group
Architect Foreground Architecture (formerly FMSA Architecture)
Location West Benalla

THE PROJECT  /

A new police station for Benalla replaces the existing station with a modernised development, with the capacity to house 80 police officers and staff, and up to 140 officers in the future.

Faced with a short program, the builder was seeking opportunities to streamline multiple packages.

With significant structural steel specified, the builder was concerned about possible delays by detailing, producing and installing the heavy structural steel.

Cortek recommended a solution that would save time by substituting structural steel with light gauge steel alternatives.

THE CORTEK STEEL FRAMING SOLUTION /

The team at Cortek designed and coordinated walls for the ground and first floor, and raked roof trusses, which were then manufactured to exact specifications. Our scope also included the coordination and design of the complex facade and plant deck steelwork.

The lightweight frames were installed quickly on site, and because they were manufactured true and straight, no further straightening was needed after installation.

Instead of a 12-week process using structural steel and traditional stick build methods, the Cortek frames were installed in just five weeks. Yes, that’s correct, a 60% reduction just by using Cortek!

In the clients own words:

The speed of production and the speed of install was really impressive. The Cortek framing system saved a large portion of the Construction Program.
