Project Overview
THE PROJECT /
The new purpose-built Senior Learning Centre for St Bernard’s College features a prominent 3D ceiling with acoustic baffles hanging from the ceiling, like upturned pyramids, or ‘stalactites’.
The complex ceiling design required an innovative approach to achieve budget requirements and facilitate easier on site construction.
THE CORTEK STEEL FRAMING SOLUTION /
With years of experience in creating pre-fabricated alternatives to traditional on site builds, the Cortek team worked closely with the builder and contractor to design a system that satisfied the specific project requirements.
Detailed and fabricated in lightweight sections for ease of handling, the frames were transported to site, and then connected to the structure simply and efficiently using scissor lifts.
The level subframe surface allowed for direct timber cladding to be accurately installed, eliminating the need for secondary battening, and providing a flush finish.
Cortek was brought on due to their ability to provide the ceiling as pre-fabricated, making it easier to manoeuvre and install on site. The ability to shop draw the modules also resulted in a more precise outcome compared to a stick build option.
