THE PROJECT  /

With a goal to deliver the future of cancer care, the $152.4 million Paula Fox Melanoma and Cancer Centre opened in April 2024. Its six levels were designed and built to deliver life-saving clinical trials, research, and patient care.

Part of the stunning design details included a striking hyperbolic curved ceiling and feature arch walls at the ground floor entrance and throughout the facility.

THE CORTEK STEEL FRAMING SOLUTION /

A traditional on site stick-build method of achieving the required curves would be time-consuming, tedious, and difficult, potentially affecting follow-on trades and delaying the project schedule.

This is when Cortek came in with a practical solution. The builder had used Cortek on other projects and understood the benefits of pre-fabrication.

A precise shop detailing process, 3D modelling, and off-site fabrication allowed our team to achieve millimetre accuracy for the curves and radiuses.

Manufactured from light gauge steel, the individual customised frames were transported to the site in modules. Upon arrival at the site, lightweight frames were easily installed, each fitting into place as designed—a quicker construction method, resulting in fewer man-hours on site.

In the client’s own words:

The pre-fab process makes installation very handy, and with 3D shop drawing showing details, it’s easy to present to clients. The admin team at Cortek is really accommodating to our project and supports us to complete the job.
