THE PROJECT /
The new cancer centre for Mornington’s Peninsula was designed to deliver a comprehensive range of oncology services, including radiation treatment facilities, clinical research spaces, consulting suites, wellness and education areas, and a specialised radiation bunker for advanced cancer care.
A key design feature of the building was its external facade, incorporating a series of recessed openings. The builder was seeking a smarter approach to simplify construction and reduce reliance on additional structural steel while maintaining the architectural intent.
THE CORTEK STEEL FRAMING SOLUTION /
Cortek worked with the project team to engineer an external wall framing system that integrated the required support directly into the framing design. By removing the need for separate structural steel around the window openings, associated material and labour costs were significantly reduced.
The pre-fabricated system was manufactured off-site and delivered install-ready, helping to streamline construction, reduce on-site works and improve program efficiency. By resolving the structural requirements during the design phase, Cortek provided the builder with a coordinated solution that delivered greater certainty throughout the project.
In the words of the client:
Once we had the design finalised, the manufacturing process and coordination to site was really quick. Look forward to working with Cortek again.
