Steel Frame Solutions

Wall, Joist & Truss Framing
We partner with our clients to design and supply steel framing solutions for successful construction projects. From healthcare to commercial, aged care to educational, we have over 20 years of experience in light gauge steel pre-fabrication.

Framing using light-gauge steel materials is the forward-thinking alternative to timber construction.

Light gauge steel framing solutions lower building dead loads and provide straight, true and accurate results. Unlike traditional materials, steel framing maintains its structural integrity and precision alignment, which means fewer on-site adjustments and a faster overall build time.

Framing is fabricated in our Melbourne-based factory and delivered directly to the site with 3D models and layout plans for easy and fast on-site installation. Our framing systems are ideal for low — to mid-rise projects, including aged care, nursing homes, schools and hospitals.

Benefits

  • Straight and true framing
  • Long-span capabilities
  • 3D virtual modelling
  • CNC manufactured components
  • Easy installation on site
  • No straightening of walls
  • Lower labour costs
  • Designed to suit the application and contractor
  • Rust, termite & rot resistant
  • Lightweight construction
  • Fast manufacturing
  • Structural steel reduction
  • Weather resistant

Client Testimonial

“By using Cortek (SBS Group), we estimate that we have saved approximately 2 months of construction programme and associated preliminaries.

Cortek steel framing proved to demonstrate a number of advantages in which were seen throughout the entire build. Onsite, and in comparison, to using conventional concrete structure or timber frames, Cortek provided significant time saving in the project construction. Logistically, Cortek’s coordination of delivering frames and on-site handlings also worked in the projects advantage.

Advantages were not only limited to on-site construction; we found that in the design stage of the project the Cortek shop drawings were able to be coordinated with the likes of windows and joinery shop drawings to eliminate design clashes.”

  • Custom fabricated to suit individual project specifications
  • Reduces exposure and risk at site level
  • Easier on site handling
  • Accurate and true framing
  • Less on site labour required
  • Quick lead times to suit project schedules
  • Fast, simple and controlled installation processes
  • In-house shop drawings, 3D CAD designs and engineering certification (if required)

Client Testimonial

“Cortek (SBS Group) made easy work of what was a challenging frame to begin with. The biggest benefit is the prefabrication off site and coming a very close second would have to be the reduction of human error on site by simply putting up a perfectly regenerated prefab frame. It’s just like LEGO and up it goes piece by piece. Keep up the good work, we pride ourselves on doing work that involves using great minds like yourselves. Wasn’t the first and won’t be the last time we use you guys.”

Pre-fabricated balustrade frames for faster install and less labour on site

Replace on site balustrade construction with a simple, adaptable pre-fabricated system. Frames are custom manufactured using light gauge steel in a controlled factory environment to precise project measurements. This approach reduces time and labour requirements on site with frames delivered ready for easy install to concrete slabs, concrete hobs or structural steel.

Frames can be engineered to carry glass or privacy screens. Large sections can also be pre-clad off site and craned into position or manually fixed off using concealed adjustable brackets. Balustrades are designed for the direct fix of cladding materials without top hats or battens.

Benefits

  • High strength lightweight construction
  • Custom designed to suit your project application
  • Quick lead times to suit project schedules
  • No structural steel or infill framing required
  • Easy fixing installation design
  • Less on site labour required
  • Suitable for secondary uses including parapet framing, inverted install and hung from soffits for smoke baffles
  • Engineered and fully certified to AS1170 & AS4600
  • No top hats or furring channels (dependent on cladding specification)
  • Design certification available on all projects

Adaptable pre-fabricated lightweight alternatives to conventional wall designs

Replacing traditional designs with pre-fabricated lightweight infill wall frames reduces, or eliminates heavy and costly structural steel packages. The adaptable system enables walls to be fabricated in module sizes to suit weight restrictions and site conditions.

In-house shop drawings are coordinated with architectural and structural models for design accuracy. Frames are delivered to site as modularised panels with layout plans for ease of installation. Once erected, buildings can be closed up quicker, allowing follow on trades to get on site earlier.

Benefits

  • High strength lightweight construction
  • True and accurate to specifications
  • Easy and simple installation, with minimal on site labour required
  • Remove unnecessary structural steel with value managed designs
  • Lower overall building dead loads
  • Speed up install and weather proof the build faster
  • Reduce WHS risk on site
  • Engineered and fully certified to AS1170 & AS4600
  • Design Regulation 126 Certification included
  • Incorporation of services and custom hole locations where required
